A painting quote comes down to three things: the area, the number of coats and the paint range. GenuineRate checks the rate per sq ft and the paint, putty and primer prices, and flags measurements that look inflated.
Every line is compared with brand price lists and researched rates for your city. You get what's overpriced, what's missing, questions to ask, and a polite message to send.
Common overcharges
Area measured generously
The painting area should be the actual wall and ceiling area, minus doors and windows. Ask how it was measured.
A cheaper paint range than quoted
Brands sell several ranges at very different prices. The quote should name the exact product, and the sealed buckets on site should match.
Fewer coats than promised
New walls usually get two coats of putty, a primer and two finish coats. Confirm each coat in writing.
“With material” but no quantities
If the painter supplies the paint, ask for litres per room so you can check the paint cost.
With material and labour, interior painting typically costs ₹18–₹32 per sq ft. Labour only is about ₹7–₹12 per sq ft.
What does interior emulsion cost?
Interior emulsion typically costs ₹200–₹380 per litre, depending on the brand and range.
How is the painting area measured?
It should be the wall and ceiling area to be painted, in sq ft, measured room by room. As a rough check, it's often around three times the carpet area.
