What we collect
- Your account: name, email address, a phone number if you choose to give one, and a securely hashed password.
- What you check: the estimate or invoice you upload (photos or PDF) or the lines you type in, your city or metro area, and any note you add.
- What you use: price scans, questions you ask the AI auditor, and feedback and recommendations you submit.
- Usage: which pages you visit and what you use on the site (for example, that a scan was made or a report was opened, not what's in it), your approximate location from your IP address, and your device and browser. Your location also decides whether you see GenuineRate India or GenuineRate US first; if you pick a country in the menu, a cookie remembers it. We use PostHog for this, which stores an analytics ID in a cookie and in your browser, and Vercel Analytics for page speed. To see where the site is confusing, PostHog may also record how pages are used (scrolling, clicks, what's on screen) — anything you type into a form is hidden from these recordings. When you're signed in, this is linked to your account and email address. A login cookie keeps you signed in, and your light/dark choice is saved in your browser.
How we use it
- To read your estimate and produce your report, answer your questions and show your history.
- To improve our prices: prices from estimates, invoices and scans may be used without names to show typical prices in your metro area.
- To understand how the site is used and fix what doesn't work.
- We don't sell your personal information.
AI processing
Your uploads and questions are sent to an AI service — Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude — to read the document and write answers. Please cover bank account numbers, Social Security numbers and other sensitive details before uploading.
Who can see it
- You, when signed in, and anyone you send your report link to. Report links are long and unguessable, and hidden from search engines.
- GenuineRate reviewers, to check and correct reports.
- Contractor and store names from your estimates are never published.
- Recommendations you submit (a business name, address and your reason) are shown on the pro and store finder after review — your name isn't.
- Links to Amazon.com, Home Depot or Lowe's may be affiliate links: we may earn a commission, at no cost to you. Those stores have their own privacy policies.
Where it's stored
Our database and files are hosted with Supabase, the website runs on Vercel, and usage analytics are kept with PostHog (in the United States). We keep your information while your account is active, or until you ask us to delete it.
Your choices
To see, correct or delete your information, reply to any message from GenuineRate. We'll delete your account, estimates and files; prices already used without names in metro averages can't be separated out.
Your rights in the United States
We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't use it for anything beyond what's described above. Depending on your state — for example under the California Consumer Privacy Act — you can ask to know what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it; reply to any message from GenuineRate. We won't treat you differently for asking.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app. See also our terms of use.
